We have the privilege to share with you our brilliant panel discussion that took place on the 27th of March 2023.

Entitled “The silent voices in between” this 80-minute session brings to the fore the voices of a generation whose lives changed dramatically as a result of the expulsion. They reflect on the build up to expulsion, their routes out of Uganda and their resettlement in Canada and the UK.

The session is moderated by Dr Mohamed Keshavjee lawyer by profession who was based in Kenya at that time and whose family was responsible for helping a Ugandan African family escape from Amin’s murderous goon squad then operating from Nairobi.

The panellists:

Mobina S. B. Jaffer KC

Mobina Jaffer is the Senator for British Columbia, Canada. Former Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights, former Chair of the Canadian Committee on Women, Peace, and Security, and Canada’s Special Envoy for Peace in Sudan from 2002-2006

Iqbal Asaria, CBE

Iqbal Asaria is a Visiting Professor at the London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF); Visiting Faculty at Bangor Business School; Visiting Faculty at City University Bayes Business School and Director of the Afkar Group of companies.

Dr. Amirali Gulamhusein

Amirali Gulamhusein is an Anatomist and graduate of Makerere University. Former Professor of Anatomy at University of Leicester; Professor of Anatomy at Aga Khan University. Award of Distinction recipient for services to medical sciences education.
